Misty Creek Rose Adoption Application Process | Priority vs General Waitlist

Welcoming a Misty Creek Rose Australian Cobberdog into your family is a meaningful journey — and one we take great care with.

Our adoption application process has been thoughtfully designed to help us understand each family, their lifestyle, their hopes for their future puppy, and the kind of temperament that will best suit their home. While many families naturally begin with preferences around size, coat, colour, or gender, our primary focus will always be on creating the most suitable match based on temperament, health, structure, energy level, and long-term suitability.

At Misty Creek Rose, we do not simply place puppies on a first-choice colour basis. We carefully observe our puppies as they grow, assess their individual natures, and use the information provided by each family to guide the matching process with honesty, care, and purpose.

Every puppy is unique. Every family is unique. Our role is to bring those two together as thoughtfully as possible.

Step 1: Submit Your Adoption Application

The first step in our adoption process is to complete our online adoption application.

This application helps us learn more about you, including:

  • Your family structure and lifestyle
  • Your previous dog experience
  • Your home environment
  • Your work schedule
  • Your preferred puppy size
  • Whether your puppy will have a special role within the family
  • Your training plans
  • Your flexibility around timing, gender, colour, and litter preference

The more detail you provide, the better we can understand what you are looking for and whether one of our puppies may be the right fit for your home.

We encourage families to answer honestly and thoughtfully. There are no perfect answers — our goal is simply to understand your circumstances so we can guide you responsibly.

Step 2: Application Review

Once your application has been submitted, we will review it carefully.

This is an important part of our process. We are not only considering whether you are ready for a puppy, but also whether our program, our expectations, and our available or upcoming litters align with what you are seeking.

Australian Cobberdogs are deeply people-focused, intuitive, and intelligent dogs. They thrive in homes where they are included, guided, trained, and supported. For this reason, we place strong emphasis on families who are committed to ongoing training, structure, socialisation, and responsible care.

If your application appears suitable, we may invite you to have a phone conversation with us.

Step 3: Phone Conversation

A phone conversation gives us an opportunity to get to know you more personally and answer any questions you may have.

This is also where we can discuss:

  • Current and upcoming litters
  • Expected sizes
  • General temperament expectations
  • Training recommendations
  • Our allocation process
  • Priority Waitlist and General Waitlist options
  • Whether a puppy from our program is the right fit for your family

We value open communication. This conversation helps both sides feel confident and informed before moving forward.

Step 4: Approval to Join the Waitlist

If your application is approved, you may be offered the opportunity to join either our Priority Waitlist or our General Waitlist, depending on your preferences and availability.

Being approved does not mean a puppy is immediately allocated. It means you have been accepted into our process and may be considered for a suitable puppy from a current or future litter.

Because our focus is on appropriate matching, we do not guarantee a puppy based solely on colour, markings, gender, or order of enquiry.

We Are Not a Supermarket — Why Responsible Placement Takes Time

At Misty Creek Rose, our puppies are not available on a “walk in, choose one, take one home today” basis.

We understand the excitement of wanting to welcome a puppy now. When a family feels ready, it is natural to feel eager and hopeful. However, ethical breeding and responsible puppy placement do not work like purchasing an item from a shelf.

Our puppies are living, developing beings with individual temperaments, needs, strengths, and suitability factors. They are not products to be selected purely by colour, gender, markings, or immediate availability.

Our process takes time because we are carefully considering:

  • Whether the timing is right for the family
  • Whether the puppy’s temperament suits the home
  • Whether the family’s lifestyle matches the puppy’s needs
  • Whether the puppy is suited to any special role required
  • Whether the family understands the training and commitment involved
  • Whether the placement supports lifelong wellbeing for both puppy and family

We are not here to simply “sell a puppy.” We are here to make thoughtful, responsible matches.

This is why our application process, waitlist system, and allocation process are so important. They allow us to place each puppy with care, rather than rushing decisions based on who asks first or who wants a puppy immediately.

A well-matched puppy is worth waiting for.

At Misty Creek Rose, our responsibility is to the puppy first — and when we honour that responsibility, we also serve our families better in the long run.

Priority Waitlist vs General Waitlist

Understanding the difference between our Priority Waitlist and General Waitlist is important when deciding how you would like to move forward.

What Is the Priority Waitlist?

Our Priority Waitlist is for families who are ready to proceed and would like to be given priority consideration for an upcoming or current litter.

Families on the Priority Waitlist have completed the application process, been approved, and paid the required Priority Waitlist deposit.

Priority families are considered first when we begin the puppy allocation process, provided there is a suitable puppy available for their home, lifestyle, and requirements.

The Priority Waitlist is best suited for families who:

  • Are ready to welcome a puppy within a planned timeframe
  • Have chosen a preferred litter or upcoming opportunity
  • Are prepared for the commitment of puppy ownership
  • Understand that temperament and suitability are prioritised over colour or markings
  • Are flexible enough to allow responsible matching

What Is the General Waitlist?

Our General Waitlist is for families who are interested in a Misty Creek Rose puppy but may not be ready to commit to a specific litter or timeframe.

This may suit families who are:

  • Still researching
  • Waiting for the right time
  • Unsure about timing
  • Interested in future litters
  • More flexible with when they welcome a puppy
  • Not yet ready to place a Priority Waitlist deposit

Priority Waitlist positions are limited for each litter so that we can manage expectations responsibly and avoid overcommitting families.

Families on the General Waitlist may receive updates about upcoming litters, availability, and opportunities to move onto the Priority Waitlist when they are ready. However, General Waitlist families are considered after Priority Waitlist families when puppies are being allocated.

Does Joining the Priority Waitlist Guarantee a Puppy?

Joining the Priority Waitlist gives you priority consideration, but it does not guarantee that a puppy will be available from a specific litter.

Mother Nature ultimately determines litter size, gender, colour, coat, and individual puppy temperament. Ultrasounds, x-rays, and breeding plans can give us helpful information, but final availability can only be confirmed once puppies are safely born, thriving, and old enough for us to begin assessing their development.

In some cases, a litter may have fewer puppies than expected, more of one gender than another, or puppies whose temperaments are better suited to other approved homes.

If a suitable puppy is not available from your preferred litter, we will discuss options with you, which may include waiting for a future litter.

How Are Puppies Allocated?

Puppy allocation is one of the most important parts of our program.

Allocations are typically made when puppies are around 7–9 weeks of age, depending on their individual development and the litter’s progress.

By this stage, we have had time to observe each puppy’s temperament, confidence, energy level, human focus, recovery, social behaviour, and overall suitability.

While we absolutely take family preferences into account, our priority is placing the right puppy with the right family.

A beautiful match is not simply about appearance. It is about long-term compatibility.

  • Temperament
  • Energy level
  • Confidence
  • Human focus
  • Coat type
  • Size expectations
  • Family lifestyle
  • Special role requirements
  • Training commitment
  • Litter dynamics
  • Breeder assessment

What If I Have a Colour or Gender Preference?

It is completely natural to have preferences. Many families are drawn to a certain coat colour, size, or gender.

However, we ask families to understand that responsible breeding is not the same as placing an order.

We cannot guarantee exact colour, markings, shade, gender, eye colour, or appearance. Puppies are living beings, not products, and Mother Nature has the final say.

At Misty Creek Rose, we do not breed for colour alone. Our focus is on health, temperament, structure, emotional intelligence, trainability, and suitability for family life.

Where possible, we will take your preferences into consideration — but temperament and suitability will always come first.

Puppies with Special Roles

Some families come to us seeking a puppy for a very special role, such as assistance work, emotional support, therapy-adjacent needs, or high-importance companionship.

For puppies intended for these roles, suitability must be assessed carefully. Not every puppy is suited to every role, even within a well-bred litter.

In these cases, temperament, confidence, resilience, human focus, trainability, and emotional regulation are especially important.

For puppies required for a special role, we strongly support structured early training, and families may be required to enrol their puppy in the TASAA Stay & Train Puppy Program with Therapy & Support Animals Australia.

This program does not replace the important role families play in raising, bonding with, and continuing their puppy’s training. Rather, it provides a strong foundation and a clear guide for families to continue their puppy’s development in the right manner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first step to adopt a Misty Creek Rose puppy?

The first step is to complete our adoption application. This allows us to learn about your family, lifestyle, preferences, training plans, and the type of puppy you are hoping to welcome.

Do I need to be approved before joining the waitlist?

Yes. Families must complete the application process and be approved before joining the Priority Waitlist. This ensures that our puppies are placed only with homes that align with our values, expectations, and commitment to responsible dog ownership.

What is the difference between the Priority Waitlist and the General Waitlist?

The Priority Waitlist is for approved families who are ready to proceed and have paid the required deposit to be given priority consideration for a current or upcoming litter. The General Waitlist is for families who are interested but not yet ready to commit to a specific litter, timeframe, or deposit. Priority families are considered before General Waitlist families when puppies are allocated.

Does the Priority Waitlist mean I get first pick?

No. We do not operate on a simple “first pick” system. Priority Waitlist families are considered first, but puppy allocation is still based on suitability, temperament, and the best match for each puppy and family.

Can I choose my own puppy?

We welcome your preferences and will always listen to what you are hoping for. However, final allocation is guided by breeder assessment, temperament observations, and suitability. Families are not allocated puppies based purely on colour, markings, or photos.

When are puppies allocated?

Puppy allocations are usually made around 7–9 weeks of age. This allows time for puppies to grow, develop, and show more of their individual temperament, confidence, energy level, and social nature.

Can I request a specific colour?

You may certainly share your colour preferences with us, and we will take them into consideration where possible. However, we cannot guarantee a specific colour, shade, pattern, markings, or coat appearance. Responsible breeding focuses first on health, temperament, structure, and suitability.

Can I request a specific gender?

You may list a gender preference in your application. However, gender availability depends on what Mother Nature provides in each litter. We encourage families to remain open where possible, especially when temperament and suitability are the most important factors.

What happens if there is no suitable puppy for me in my preferred litter?

If there is no suitable puppy available from your preferred litter, we will discuss your options with you. Depending on availability and your preferences, you may be offered the opportunity to wait for a future litter or consider another suitable upcoming litter.

How many Priority Waitlist spots are available per litter?

Priority Waitlist positions are limited for each litter. This helps us manage expectations responsibly and ensures that we do not overpromise availability before puppies are born, assessed, and confirmed as thriving.

Can I move from the General Waitlist to the Priority Waitlist?

Yes. If you are on the General Waitlist and later decide you are ready to proceed, you may request to move to the Priority Waitlist, subject to approval and availability. A Priority Waitlist deposit may be required to secure your priority position.

Is the waitlist deposit refundable?

Please refer to the current Misty Creek Rose terms provided at the time of joining the waitlist, as deposit and payment terms may vary depending on the stage of the process and the litter. We encourage all families to read the terms carefully before making payment.

What if I am flexible with timing?

If you are flexible with timing, the General Waitlist may be a suitable starting point. Flexibility can often be helpful, especially if you are focused on temperament and suitability rather than a very specific colour, gender, or timeframe.

What if I need a puppy for therapy, assistance, or emotional support?

Please clearly note this in your application. Puppies being considered for special roles require careful assessment. Families seeking a puppy for assistance work, emotional support, guide dog potential, therapy-adjacent roles, or high-importance companionship may be required to complete the TASAA Stay & Train Puppy Program.

Why does Misty Creek Rose focus so much on matching?

Because the right match matters for the lifetime of the dog. A puppy may be beautiful, but beauty alone does not determine whether that puppy will suit your household, energy level, experience, expectations, or future goals.

A Thoughtful Process for a Lifetime Commitment

Our adoption application process is not designed to be rushed. It is designed to be careful, personal, and responsible.

Every Misty Creek Rose puppy is raised with love, intention, and purpose. From the moment they are born, we are observing, nurturing, guiding, and learning who they are becoming.

When the time comes to match them with their families, we do so with the same care.

We are deeply grateful for families who understand that this process is about more than simply choosing a puppy. It is about honouring who each puppy is, understanding what each family needs, and creating a match with the best possible chance of lifelong success.

At Misty Creek Rose, every new life begins with love, purpose, and the promise of something special.
