At Misty Creek Rose, health is foundational to our breeding program. It is approached with intention, evidence, and specialist oversight — ensuring each dog is supported not only for breeding, but for a lifetime of wellbeing.
Our health protocols combine genetic testing, structural assessment, and comprehensive veterinary screening to guide ethical, responsible breeding decisions.
Health & Genetic Integrity in Our Breeding Program
Health testing at Misty Creek Rose is never a single step. It is a carefully considered process designed to protect the wellbeing of our dogs and the future of the breed.
Genetic Health Testing for Responsible Breeding
All Misty Creek Rose breeding dogs undergo full breed-specific genetic testing through Orivet, a globally respected canine genetic laboratory.
These panels screen for inherited conditions relevant to each breed, identifying clear, carrier, or affected status. Results are used to guide ethical pairing decisions while preserving genetic diversity and reducing the risk of preventable hereditary disease.
Structural Soundness & Orthopaedic Health
Sound structure is essential for comfort, mobility, and longevity. Misty Creek Rose dogs are assessed using internationally recognised orthopedic evaluation systems to ensure long-term joint health.
Hip & Elbow Health Assessments
- PennHIP – Quantitative measurement of hip joint laxity, allowing early identification of dysplasia risk
- CHEDs – Evaluation of hip and elbow conformation and early degenerative change
- OFA – Internationally recognised grading and certification for transparency and consistency
Specialist Health Screening
Some conditions are not detectable through DNA testing or radiographs alone. For this reason, specialist screening forms an important part of the Misty Creek Rose Breeding Program.
Eye Health Screening
Routine eye screening is conducted to assess for inherited or developmental eye conditions that may affect long-term vision and breeding suitability.
Cardiac Health Screening
Heart health screening is undertaken to identify congenital or acquired cardiac conditions that could impact quality of life or breeding suitability.
Pre-Breeding Veterinary Screening & Assessment
All health testing within the Misty Creek Rose Breeding Program is supported by comprehensive pre-breeding examinations conducted through Queensland Veterinary Specialists (QVS) under the guidance of Dr. Xavier Schneider.
These examinations ensure health test results are clinically meaningful, dogs are assessed holistically, and breeding decisions are supported by specialist veterinary expertise.
Our Ongoing Commitment to Health & Wellbeing
Health testing at Misty Creek Rose is an ongoing responsibility.
Through genetic screening, structural assessment, specialist evaluations, and veterinary guidance, we aim to reduce the risk of inherited disease, support lifelong soundness and wellbeing, and provide confidence and peace of mind to Misty Creek Rose families.
