Our Partnership with TASAA
At Misty Creek Rose, responsible breeding extends beyond health and structure — it includes purpose, temperament, and the lifelong role our dogs may play in supporting people. That is why we are proud to partner with TASAA – Therapy & Support Animal Australia.
This partnership reflects our commitment to raising dogs with the stability, resilience, and sound temperament required for therapy, assistance, and emotional support roles, while still honouring their place first and foremost as beloved family companions.
Who is TASAA?
Therapy & Support Animal Australia (TASAA) is a nationally recognised organisation dedicated to the assessment, accreditation, and advocacy of therapy and support animals across Australia.
TASAA works to:
- Promote high standards for therapy and support animals
- Ensure animals are suitable in temperament, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Educate handlers, families, and organisations
- Advocate for ethical, welfare-focused practices
Their work helps protect not only the people who rely on support animals, but also the animals themselves — ensuring they are respected, protected, and never placed under inappropriate expectations.
Why This Partnership Matters
Not every dog is suited to therapy or support work — and that is okay. True suitability begins long before training, rooted in genetics, early neurological development, environment, and ethical breeding decisions.
Our partnership with TASAA reinforces our focus on:
- Temperament-first breeding, prioritising calm, confident, people-focused dogs
- Thoughtful puppy raising, supporting emotional regulation and resilience
- Welfare-led decision making, ensuring dogs are never pushed beyond what is fair or appropriate
Education for families, so expectations remain realistic and humane
What This Means for Our Families
For our puppy and guardian families, this partnership provides reassurance that:
- Temperament is considered as carefully as health and structure
- Our dogs are raised with stable foundations, not pressured outcomes
- Any therapy or support potential is nurtured ethically and assessed professionally
- Dogs are valued for who they are, not simply what they can do
Whether a dog ultimately becomes a therapy or support animal — or simply the steady heart of a family — their wellbeing always comes first.
Supporting the Right Dogs, in the Right Way
Working alongside TASAA helps ensure that therapy and support pathways are guided by professional assessment rather than assumption or demand.
This partnership supports:
- Appropriate matching of dogs to roles
- Respect for individual limits and needs
- Protection of dogs from unsuitable placements
Confidence for families exploring therapy or support work responsibly
A Shared Philosophy
At the heart of our partnership with TASAA is a shared belief:
- Support animals should be protected, not exploited — and every dog deserves a life of balance, dignity, and care.
This aligns seamlessly with our ethos at Misty Creek Rose — dogs as family first, breeding as stewardship, and education as the cornerstone of ethical practice.
Looking Ahead
We are proud to align with Therapy & Support Animal Australia as part of a broader commitment to raising dogs capable of making a positive difference — without ever compromising their wellbeing.
This partnership represents our dedication to:
- Ethical, temperament-led breeding
- Responsible pathways into therapy and support roles
- Lifelong advocacy for the dogs we raise
We look forward to continuing this journey with TASAA and with the families who share our values.
FAQs
Can My Puppy Be a Therapy or Support Dog?
Maybe — but it’s not something we can promise, predict, or force.
Can you tell at birth if a puppy will be suitable for therapy or support work?
No. While genetics and early temperament give us valuable information, true suitability only becomes clear as a dog matures. Emotional resilience, confidence, adaptability, and enjoyment of the work all develop over time.
Do you breed puppies specifically to become therapy or support dogs?
We breed for sound temperament, stability, and wellbeing first. These qualities may support future therapy or assistance pathways, but every puppy is raised without pressure or expectation of a working outcome.
Does partnering with TASAA mean your puppies are therapy dogs?
No. Our partnership with Therapy & Support Animal Australia (TASAA) reflects shared values and ethical alignment — not automatic accreditation or guarantees. Formal assessment and accreditation must always be completed independently and at the appropriate age.
What qualities are needed for therapy or support work?
Dogs suited to therapy or support roles typically show:
- Calm, steady temperaments
- Confidence without overexcitement
- Enjoyment of human interaction
- Ability to cope with new environments
- Strong recovery from stress
Just as importantly, they must enjoy the work. A dog who finds these environments stressful should never be asked to continue.
What if my dog is not suited to therapy or support work?
That is completely okay. Not being a therapy or support dog is not a failure — it simply means your dog’s strengths lie elsewhere. Many dogs are happiest being beloved companions, and that role is just as important.
How can I explore this pathway responsibly?
If, as your dog matures, you feel therapy or support work may be a good fit:
- Focus first on foundational training and confidence
- Prioritise your dog’s wellbeing and enjoyment
- Seek professional assessment through organisations such as TASAA
Be guided by your dog’s comfort and limits at every stage
When does TASAA puppy training begin?
TASAA puppy training begins when your Australian Cobberdog puppy is ready to leave Misty Creek Rose at 8 weeks of age and transitions directly into the 28-Day TASAA Stay & Train Program. This training builds on the early socialisation, crate training, and toilet training already commenced at Misty Creek Rose, providing a strong foundation before your puppy comes home to you.
What behaviours are covered in TASAA puppy training?
TASAA puppy training covers a comprehensive set of skills and behaviours to give your Australian Cobberdog puppy the best possible start during its critical early development period. The 28-Day TASAA Stay & Train Program includes:
- Crate training and toilet training, including a taught command for quick house training
- Basic obedience such as sit, down, stay, watch, recall, lead familiarity and loose-leash walking
- Socialisation with people, dogs, other animals and real-world environments
- Confidence and calmness training, reducing separation anxiety and stress reactions
- Exposure to varied sights, sounds, smells, and locations (cafes, parks, vehicles, etc.)
- Vet handling and grooming desensitisation, including nail trimming and coat care
- Structured daily routine and enrichment activities to support mental wellbeing
- Real-life environmental experiences to improve adaptability and composure TASAA
This structured, positive approach shapes desirable behaviours and prevents common behavioural challenges before they become established.
Why is early training important for Australian Cobberdogs?
Australian Cobberdogs are highly intelligent and intuitive dogs. Early training provides structure and consistency, helping prevent behavioural challenges and supporting the development of a calm, confident adult dog.
Does Misty Creek Rose start training before puppies go home?
Yes. At Misty Creek Rose, puppies begin early socialisation, crate training, and toilet training before they are allocated to their new families. TASAA puppy training continues and strengthens this foundation.
Will TASAA puppy training help with separation anxiety?
Yes. TASAA puppy training teaches families how to build independence, routine, and confidence, which can significantly reduce the risk of separation anxiety.
